With our empty stomach, we start our day...
1st stop of the day: The Basement Café @ SMU
The Basement Café
80 Stamford Rd #B1-62,
School of Information System, Singapore Management University SMU
Opening Hours: Monday to Friday (8:30am – 4.30pm)
Call it a blessing in disguise, we actually manage to head to SMU Basement Café before it closes. Do check them out if possible before 11th April 2014.
Founded by 5 students; amazing how they juggle a food business and school. This small and cosy café is needless to say they have much better quality and standard comparing many bigger brands out there.

Its a pity we will not get to try other items on the menu but we are truly thankful to have even tried it once.
Light and velvety nutty mushroom soup; simply taste of goodness.
Perfectly well seasoned *thumbs up*
Not forgetting the Focaccia, crispy crust and a slight chewy interior and with the toasted flavor, it marries perfectly with the nutty soup.

Anything that consists of English muffin, gooey egg yolk and smoked salmon,
is a must have for me. *YAY*
From the nicely toasted muffins to the slight salty smoked salmon and ooooy-gooey yolks, this was the perfect dish to start my day.
P.S. I successfully made her eat and like runny yolks!

Contrast of 2 different cuts; the lean pork cheeks with the meaty and crispy rind of the belly with the rich red wine tomato sauce, is truly delicious. This dish really beats many similar dishes out there (in my opinion). WOW!

Chocolate tart looks plain right? This is where the quote 'looks can be deceiving' comes true. 1 look and you may contemplate to order the Chocolate tart. But since the Chocolate lovers that we are *TADAH* we ordered it :)
The verdict: TOTALLY WORTH IT! Bitter, rich, chocolaty, crumbly crust and some form of chewy filling in the middle (still no idea what it is.)

The Verdict: what could go wrong with sour/ sweet berries, smooth custard and flaky shortcrust pastry? NOTHING! Besides, fruit tarts are my absolute favorite ever since I can remember.
The Brews:
The Brews:
Essentially espresso served in a double wall coffee cup with ice. The person who took my order says it will be thick and bitter but in my opinion, I think its acceptable; not too bitter. Even C says it's good even when she hates the bitterness of coffee.
In my opinion, taste okay, nothing to wow about. But you do taste the apple flavor but not so much of the tea though. But it's a nice refreshing drink for a hot hot afternoon.
